Rescue Express is an initiative of MGM Animal Foundation, a 501(c)3. Founder, Mike McCarthy, a retired software entrepreneur who has been working with rescue groups to save the lives of homeless animals for over 20 years, established his rescue transport nonprofit February 14, 2015. Rescue Express has transported and saved over 15,000 lives since then. Mr. McCarthy recently relocated headquarters of Rescue Express to Rancho Santa Fe, California from Eugene, Oregon, where buses leave every weekend, transporting up to 150 animals per trip, from overpopulated high-kill shelters, along the I-5 corridor as far north as Canada, in collaboration with 300 rescue groups who find the pets forever homes.
As a lifelong animal lover, I’m thrilled to be onboard the Rescue Express Team and I look forward to what the future will bring in terms of increasing the numbers of animals saved. I grew up in a home filled with pets of every species, including dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles, guinea pigs and even a couple of snakes. Pets bring a tremendous amount of joy to our lives and providing individuals and families with the experience of loving a pet is the best feeling in the world. I am a Southern California native from Rancho Palos Verdes, and my educational background is in Public Health. I received a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue my doctorate degree at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. As an academic researcher, I was a successful grant writer and eventually transitioned my career to grant writing for nonprofits. On the side, I found I had a passion for event planning, which eventually expanded the scope of my career working with nonprofits. In 2014, I founded my own nonprofit, Hearts for San Diego, as a way to give back to our community and support a variety of causes and local nonprofits, by organizing fundraising events on their behalf. Each event is special to me and I love being able to support our veterans, the environment, special populations, and a variety of other causes, but our events supporting rescue animals was by far the dearest to my heart. I am thrilled to represent Rescue Express as the Executive Director and look forward to growing the organization and helping thousands more homeless animals find their forever homes.
Danielle began her business career managing Lou's Records of Encinitas, and then moved to Chicago to start up a renowned international music distribution and record label company. As a native Southern Californian, she loves the outdoors, but most of all, she loves dogs... compassionate and loving to all animals, but crazy about dogs! Danielle volunteered her time fostering and rehabilitating rottweilers from Dawg Squad, a Los Angeles rescue group, and completed a nationally certified course in Small Animal/Canine Acupressure from Ojai School of Massage in 2008. Sorry, no human acupressure, only dogs.
